New York Giants at 49ers Preview and Lines

There is no doubt that these two franchises are both in deep trouble right now, they are two of the worst teams in the division, and to put things bluntly, they don’t appear to be going anywhere positive any time soon. This could well be a game littered with mistakes, and it may not be a case of who plays the best wins, but a case of who plays the worst loses. There is little to get excited about for the fans of these franchises this season, and a high draft pick is on the agenda for both teams next summer.

The Giants come here with a 1-27 record and off their bye week. Much of the talk this season has been about Eli Manning and it is clear that he isn’t the quarterback he once was. The Giants were expected to draft a quarterback in the summer but didn’t and they are now paying the price for that, they have to wait another season before being able to get someone fresh and young to lead this franchise forward.

The 49ers have had quarterback problems of their own, although they have all been injury related. Going into this game, Nick Mullens will lead them, and last week he led them to a surprising 34-3 victory over the Oakland Raiders. He earnt the chance to play again this week, and it is expected he will do so, he remains an interesting prospect for the 49ers and could end up winning the starting job for the rest of the season. The 49ers will go into their bye week after this game, allowing them to evaluate and see where they are before deciding on what to do in the future regarding their quarterbacks.

As far as this game goes, the edge for me is with the 49ers. I don’t think either team are very good, but they are slightly better than the Giants, and they also have home field advantage in this one, which is never a bad thing. They should come here with a little confidence after their win over the Oakland Raiders, and I am going to back them to pick up another victory here.

The Giants are in disarray to put it simply, and they are not going to turn that around any time soon without a new young quarterback to lead them. There isn’t much between these two, both are poor, but I’m backing the 49ers to come out on top on Monday night.
