New England Patriots at Detroit Lions Lines and Preview

The New England Patriots go head to head with the Detroit Lions on Sunday night and both teams will be looking to bounce back from defeats last weekend. The Pats come here on the back of an opening day win and a loss in Jacksonville last weekend, while the Lions are yet to pick up a win after defeats against the Jets and 49ers to kick off their season.

We often see New England struggling early in the season so the loss last weekend wasn’t really a surprise. They save their best football for the end of the season and the playoffs, and despite the setback I fully expect them to be in contention when we hit the start of 2019. We saw the blossoming partnership between Tom Brady and Chris Hogan come to the fore last season and Hogan has already scored two touchdowns this season. He is an important player and takes some pressure of star tight end Rob Gronkowski so look out for him in this game.

When you go up against a quarterback like Brady, the last thing you want is defensive issues but that is exactly what the Lions have right now. They have conceded 78 points in their opening two games, and cannot afford Brady the same time on the ball that they have done with other quarterbacks so far. They have the potential to score well, but it is unlikely they will be able to keep up with Brady and the gang. Therefore they are going to need their defensive players to step up and somehow stop New England from advancing and you can wager before kick off and in play at Bovada.

This is not really the time when we see New England at their best, and they appear to go through the motions somewhat at the start of any season. However, coming here on the back of a loss in Jacksonville, they want to get back on track and pick up a win in this one. The matchup looks good for the Pats, going up against a team that is struggling defensively so far.

The key here is can Detroit stop Brady? If they can then there is enough scoring on the Lions team to give them a chance. However, what we have seen so far implies that they are nowhere near good enough to stop one of the game’s greats, so I am backing a comfortable Patriot win here by double figures.
